My daughter, yep the one from the bookstore again (see previous post), answers all these crazy, silly surveys on MySpace and then posts them on her site. Well I love reading her answers, it gives me a real insight into her psyche, some of which I'll have to pay to try to reverse with therapy later but MOST of it reveals what a funny, clever girl she really is. I've always wanted to do these, but let's face it, I'm in my late 40's and I'd look like an idiot posting it on my MySpace page and certainly not on my Facebook - I have Pastors as friends on that site. So....what better place to answer a survey and post it than here on my blog. All the cool kids are doing it.

Just another surreal night in Riverside
The life of a mom is never easy. We do things for our kids that really should make us scratch our heads and and wonder - "What in the world am I doing?" I say this from experience my friends. As I type this blog post I'm sitting in the Borders bookstore in Riverside plaza at 10:36pm on a Friday night. I paid $9.99 to get internet access and kill 3 hours. I'm on a laptop that has a history of crashing over and over on the internet and I have no pages bookmarked and I can NEVER remember web addresses, I forgot my cf card with over 200 pictures on it so I have no pictures to edit. I can't get into my work web page to moderate comments so here I sit typing this blog post ever so slowly, hoping the time goes by faster than my typing. I'm here under these tortuous circumstances because my oldest daughter wanted to attend a book party for something called "Twilight" - the new teen book series rage (coming to a theater near you- not kidding about that by the way) It's a series about a girl who loves a vampire but he's a good vampire as opposed to a bad one? I dunno. All I know is I have a book geek for a daughter and I'm proud of that mind you - there are a LOT of worse things she could be doing with her life at the tender age of 14 and a half. Besides she needs a life and if cheering for fake charachters dressed up as real ones and getting her picture taken with them and having a debate over which guy the main girl should like and having trivia contests and talking about what they hope is in the new book and then a 12:01 AM release of the newest book, that I have to pay for by the way - if THAT'S what it takes to make me "Mom of the day" ( a year is to much pressure) and give my daughter a life, at least for the night, well then I'm all for it. At least I can make HER stand in the never ending line for marginal coffee ( I wonder - is this really Seattle's BEST?). So as I sip and ponder and type ever still so slowly chuckling to myself at the girls dressed up as their favorite charachter in the book, thanking the Lord above that my daughter is not THAT big of a geek ( no offense to anyone who actually dresses up as their favorite book charachter mind you - but c'mon seriously?), I salute you other moms that will do what it takes to give your children ample opportunity to express themselves despite the weather, the late night hours, the long drives or the less than free Wifi.
Elly won that debate by the way by stating that one guy was hotter than the other and therefore the girl should like him.... and a HUGE cheer went out from the all-girl crowd - college debate team here she comes....
Costume contest is coming up - I knew I should have worn my cape.

Friday Night Sights
I'm experimenting with new Techno knowledge and tried my hand at sharing a slideshow of some random shots from Jr High Friday Night activities this past week. Mary sang with the band and Hanz and I were proud parents indeed. Here's the random pics in slideshow form that I promised.
Israel pics will be forthcoming.....

Flower Power!
I love taking pictures of flowers and my favorites are geraniums. The very first one is a close-up of flowers from a tree in Jordan they call a "Crazy Tree". You stick it in the ground, give it water and it grows like crazy. They're very prolific in the parched desert landscape of Israel and Jordan. It's very similar to our Mimosa tree. The 2nd one is a cluster of flowers from a Hoya plant. The flowers look like candy when they blossom and smell divine. The last three are from Israel - from a courtyard in the Citadel -David's tomb and from the Garden Tomb. Someday I'd love to get a macro lens so I can get the super close-up shots!

eeew! What is that? I know, let's eat it!
We had a great time the other night with our friends the Mariano's. They moved here from New Orleans a few years back and they're really trying to make Riverside "cajun" one person at a time. We shared in a springtime Louisiana tradition of boiled crawfish, corn and potatoes. I cannot believe how many of the little buggers we all ate! Mary and Elly plates were heaped with the carcasses of many crawfish heads. We had two escapees that tried to make a break for it but Lucy the dog ate them later that night boiled or not- she didn't care... that's one of the reasons why dogs don't rule the world.

We'll call this the "Mary" post
Mary at Jr. High Talent Night
Just some pics of my girl from Christmas up to now. I kept the really fuzzy one because as I said before a cool shot is a cool shot even if it's blurry (professionals may not agree - another reason I'm not one) and I LOVE the look on her face and her piano teachers face. It's from her recital and she was obviously really pleased with herself.

Easter Sunday
We love to go to our family's house for the holidays. The Briggs aren't "blood" relatives, but they might as well be. We got to play with two babies - Jovie, Ty and Lauren's beautiful baby girl and Peyton, Beau and Nicole's new little puppy. The dog in the window is one of six there that day - I can't remember which one it was (maybe Grace). I just LOVE that all you can see is an eye and a nose. The shots are all a little grainy - I didn't check my ISO setting until I downloaded these pictures. Better late than never? I'll be sure to let you know when I've taken the perfect picture. Can we take cameras to heaven?
